Simple Nutrition Rules for Building Muscle at Home https://carsonteagarden.com/simple-nutrition-rules-building-muscle/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 08:00:00 +0000 https://carsonteagarden.com/?p=4956 You can have the best workout program in the world, but if your nutrition is off, you’ll spin your wheels forever. I’ve seen it hundreds of times — guys who train hard but eat poorly, then wonder why they’re not seeing results.

The good news? Nutrition doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t need to count every calorie, weigh every meal, or buy expensive supplements. Here are the simple rules I follow and teach my coaching clients.

Prioritize Protein

Protein is the building block of muscle. Without enough of it, your body can’t repair and grow from your training. Aim for roughly 0.8-1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day.

For a 180-pound guy, that’s 145-180 grams of protein daily. Spread it across 3-4 meals and you’re looking at 40-50 grams per meal — that’s a chicken breast, a few eggs, or a scoop of protein powder with some Greek yogurt.

Good protein sources: chicken, turkey, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, fish, lean beef, and protein powder as a supplement — not a replacement for real food.

Eat Balanced Meals

Every meal should have three things: a protein source, a carbohydrate source, and vegetables. That’s the framework. It’s simple, sustainable, and keeps you from overthinking.

Chicken breast with rice and broccoli. Eggs with toast and spinach. Ground turkey with sweet potatoes and mixed greens. You don’t need fancy recipes or exotic ingredients. Basic whole foods, prepared simply, eaten consistently.

Don’t Fear Carbs

Carbs are fuel for your training. If you’re doing calisthenics 3-4 days a week, you need energy to perform. Cutting carbs too aggressively will kill your workouts and make you miserable.

Focus on quality carb sources — rice, oats, potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruits, and whole grain bread. Save the sugary stuff for occasional treats, not daily staples.

Walk Every Day

This is the most underrated piece of the puzzle. Walking is the most underrated exercise — period. I recommend walking at least 7,000-10,000 steps daily. It boosts your metabolism, aids recovery, reduces stress, and helps with body composition without adding training fatigue.

You don’t need to run marathons or do hours of cardio. Just walk. Take calls while walking. Walk after meals. Park further away. These small habits add up to massive results over time.

Hydration Matters

Drink water. A lot of it. Most guys are chronically dehydrated, which impacts training performance, recovery, energy levels, and even hunger signals. Aim for at least half your bodyweight in ounces daily — more if you’re training hard or living in a hot climate.

The 80/20 Rule

Eat well 80% of the time, and don’t stress about the other 20%. This isn’t about perfection — it’s about consistency. If you eat clean most of the time, having pizza with friends on Friday night isn’t going to ruin your progress.

The guys who fail at nutrition are the ones who try to be perfect, burn out after two weeks, and go back to eating junk every day. The guys who succeed are the ones who build sustainable habits they can maintain for years.

Supplements: Keep It Simple

You don’t need a cabinet full of supplements. If you’re eating well, you’re covering most of your bases. The only supplements I consistently recommend are protein powder (for convenience, not necessity), creatine monohydrate (the most researched supplement in fitness), and a multivitamin as insurance for any micronutrient gaps.

Everything else is optional at best and a waste of money at worst. Don’t fall for the marketing.

Putting It All Together

Eat enough protein. Build balanced meals. Don’t cut carbs. Walk daily. Drink water. Be consistent, not perfect. That’s it — that’s the nutrition plan that’s helped me and hundreds of my coaching clients build muscle and lose fat from home.

Behind the Viral Flappy Bird Push-Up Record and My Craziest Fitness Challenges https://carsonteagarden.com/viral-flappy-bird-pushup-record-fitness-challenges/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 08:00:00 +0000 https://carsonteagarden.com/?p=4955 If you found me through TikTok or YouTube, there’s a good chance it was because of one of my challenge videos. The Flappy Bird push-up video. The arm wrestling challenges. The cousin boxing glove video that blew past a million views. These viral moments have been some of the most fun — and most exhausting — content I’ve ever created.

The Flappy Bird Push-Up Record

This is the one that took off in a way I never expected. The concept was simple — I rigged up a system where the game Flappy Bird was controlled by my push-ups and pull-ups. Every rep made the bird fly. The challenge was to keep the bird alive as long as possible, which meant repping out push-ups at an insane pace without stopping.

What started as a fun video idea turned into one of my most-viewed pieces of content. People loved the combination of gaming and fitness — it made working out feel like play. And that’s honestly the secret to staying consistent: find ways to make training fun.

The Million-View Boxing Glove Video

The cousin boxing glove video on TikTok crossed a million views, and it’s still one of my favorites. There’s something about friendly competition that people can’t look away from. It wasn’t scripted or overproduced — just real reactions, real competition, and real fun.

That’s a pattern I’ve noticed across all my viral content. The videos that blow up are never the ones I spend the most time editing. They’re the ones that capture genuine moments of challenge, surprise, or competition.

Strength Tests and Arm Wrestling

My arm wrestling and strength test videos consistently perform well because people are curious about real-world strength. Can a calisthenics athlete beat a weightlifter in an arm wrestle? How strong are you really if you can do a planche?

These videos bridge the gap between calisthenics and mainstream fitness. They show that bodyweight training builds functional, applicable strength — not just the ability to do cool tricks on a bar.

What Makes Fitness Content Go Viral

After creating nearly 1,000 videos across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, I’ve learned a few things about what makes content spread.

It has to be shareable. People share content that makes them say “you have to see this.” That means doing something unexpected, impressive, or entertaining. A standard workout tutorial won’t get shared the way a Flappy Bird push-up challenge will.

It has to be relatable. Even if the viewer can’t do what you’re doing, they need to see themselves in the content. The challenge format works because everyone understands competition. Everyone knows what it feels like to push your limits.

Keep it authentic. My most viral videos have minimal production value. Real reactions, genuine effort, unscripted moments. People can smell fake content from a mile away, and the algorithm rewards engagement — which comes from authenticity.

The Ice Bath Challenge

The ice bath content tapped into a different kind of challenge — mental toughness. Getting into freezing water isn’t a strength test; it’s a willpower test. And that resonated with my audience because so much of fitness is mental.

The cold plunge trend has been huge across social media, and my videos added the calisthenics twist — combining cold exposure with bodyweight exercises for a brutal combination that people couldn’t stop watching.

What’s Next for Challenge Content

I’ve got plenty more challenges planned. The Noah Beck duet collaboration opened doors to working with creators outside the fitness space, and I’m looking to do more crossover content that introduces calisthenics to new audiences.

If you want to see these challenges as they happen, make sure you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel and following me on TikTok and Instagram.

And if you’re a creator looking to make fitness content that people actually watch — stop overthinking it. Grab your phone, do something challenging, and hit record. The best content is the content you actually make.

The Complete HOME SHRED Program: Get Fit from Home in 3 Hours a Week https://carsonteagarden.com/home-shred-program-get-fit-from-home/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 08:00:00 +0000 https://carsonteagarden.com/?p=4954 You’re busy. You’ve got work, family, responsibilities — and the last thing you want to do is spend two hours driving to and from a gym. I get it. That’s exactly why I created HOME SHRED.

HOME SHRED is my one-on-one online coaching program designed for busy men who want to build real strength, lose body fat, and transform their physique — all from home, with no equipment, in as little as 3 hours per week.

Why Home Training Works

Most guys think they need a gym to get in shape. They think they need barbells, dumbbells, cables, and machines. But after seven years of training exclusively with bodyweight, I can tell you — that’s a myth.

Calisthenics builds a physique that’s functional, defined, and sustainable. You develop real-world strength that transfers to everything you do. And because you’re training at home, you eliminate every excuse — no commute, no gym fees, no waiting for equipment.

What You Get with HOME SHRED

Personalized Programming: This isn’t a cookie-cutter PDF. I design your workout plan based on your current fitness level, your goals, and your available time. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an intermediate lifter looking to try calisthenics, your program is built for you.

Direct Coaching: You get direct access to me through DM. Form checks, questions, adjustments — I’m there to guide you every step of the way.

Nutrition Guidance: Training is only half the equation. I’ll help you dial in your nutrition with simple, sustainable eating strategies. No extreme diets, no meal prep for hours — just practical guidelines that fit your lifestyle.

Accountability: This is the piece most guys are missing. Having someone check in on your progress, hold you to your commitments, and push you when you want to quit makes all the difference.

The Training Philosophy

I recommend beginners train 3-4 days per week, with sessions running about 45-60 minutes. That’s roughly 3 hours of actual training time per week. As you advance, you can scale up — I personally train 2-3 hours daily, but that’s not where you start.

The program follows progressive overload principles adapted for bodyweight training. Each week, you’re either doing more reps, harder variations, or reducing rest times. This constant progression is what drives results.

Who Is HOME SHRED For?

HOME SHRED is built for men who want to get in shape but feel held back by time, money, or access to a gym. If any of these sound like you, this program is the answer:

You want to lose body fat and build visible muscle, but you don’t have time for a gym. You’ve tried workout programs before but couldn’t stay consistent. You want to learn calisthenics but don’t know where to start. You’re a dad, a professional, or a student with limited time. You want personalized guidance, not a generic program.

Real Results

I’ve coached hundreds of men through HOME SHRED, and the transformations speak for themselves. Guys who couldn’t do a single pull-up are now repping out sets of 10. Men who were 30+ pounds overweight have completely changed their body composition. And they did it all from their living room.

With online and digital, you can reach more people worldwide, and give them more tips. That’s what HOME SHRED allows me to do — bring world-class calisthenics coaching to anyone, anywhere.

How to Get Started

If you’re ready to transform your physique from home, DM me on Instagram @carsonteagarden with the word “SHRED” and I’ll send you all the details.

Stop waiting for the perfect time. Stop telling yourself you need a gym. All you need is your body, a floor, and the decision to start. Let’s get to work.

How Faith Fuels My Fitness Journey https://carsonteagarden.com/how-faith-fuels-my-fitness-journey/ Sun, 19 Apr 2026 08:00:00 +0000 https://carsonteagarden.com/?p=4953 People always ask me where my drive comes from. How do I stay consistent year after year? How do I push through the days when I don’t feel like training? The honest answer is my faith.

Christ has changed my life just like fitness has changed my life. These two things — my relationship with God and my commitment to physical discipline — aren’t separate parts of my life. They’re deeply connected, and one fuels the other every single day.

The Body as a Gift

I believe our bodies are a gift, and taking care of them is an act of gratitude. When I train, I’m not just building muscle or chasing aesthetics. I’m honoring the body I’ve been given by making it as strong, healthy, and capable as possible.

This perspective changes everything about how you approach fitness. It stops being about vanity and starts being about stewardship. You’re not punishing your body — you’re investing in it.

Discipline Transfers

The discipline I’ve built through daily training carries into every other area of my life. Waking up early to work out teaches you to show up when it’s hard. Pushing through a tough set teaches you to persevere when life gets difficult. Being consistent with your nutrition teaches you that small daily choices compound into massive results.

These are the same principles I see in my walk with God — daily commitment, showing up even when you don’t feel like it, trusting the process even when you can’t see immediate results.

Why Christian Men Need Physical Discipline

I think there’s a real need for men — especially men of faith — to take their physical health seriously. Not for pride or ego, but because you can’t serve your family, your community, or your purpose if your body is breaking down.

Being physically strong gives you the energy and capacity to show up for the people who depend on you. It builds confidence that helps you lead. And the mental toughness you develop through training prepares you for the real challenges life throws at you.

Finding Community

One of the most rewarding parts of sharing my faith alongside my fitness content has been connecting with other men who share these values. Through my YouTube channel and my coaching program, I’ve met guys from all over the world who are using fitness as a way to become better men — physically, mentally, and spiritually.

That sense of brotherhood and accountability is powerful. When you surround yourself with people who share your values and your commitment to growth, you all rise together.

My Daily Practice

My morning starts with prayer and Scripture before I train. It centers me, reminds me of my purpose, and puts the day’s work in perspective. Whether I’m filming a video, coaching a client, or pushing through a tough training session, that foundation carries me through.

If you’re a man of faith looking to take your fitness seriously, I want you to know — these two pursuits don’t compete with each other. They complement each other in ways that will transform every area of your life.

Helping people and get paid doing something that I love — that’s what this journey has given me. And it all started with a decision to honor God with my body and share what I learned along the way.

Complete Beginner’s Guide to Calisthenics: Get Started with Zero Equipment https://carsonteagarden.com/beginners-guide-to-calisthenics/ Sat, 18 Apr 2026 08:00:00 +0000 https://carsonteagarden.com/?p=4952 If you’re reading this, you probably want to get in shape but don’t know where to start. Maybe you can’t afford a gym membership, or maybe you just don’t have time to drive there and back every day. Good news — you don’t need any of that.

Calisthenics is bodyweight training in its purest form. Push-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats — movements that humans have been doing for thousands of years. And it works. I’ve built my entire physique and career around calisthenics, and I’m here to show you exactly how to get started.

What Is Calisthenics?

Calisthenics comes from the Greek words “kalos” (beauty) and “sthenos” (strength). It’s a form of exercise that uses your own body weight as resistance. Unlike traditional weightlifting, calisthenics develops functional strength, flexibility, and body control simultaneously.

You’re not huge. You’re more defined, stronger. That’s the calisthenics difference. You build a physique that’s athletic, capable, and sustainable — not one that disappears the moment you stop going to the gym.

What You Need to Get Started

Here’s the beautiful thing about calisthenics — the barrier to entry is almost zero:

Essential: A floor and your body. That’s it. You can start right now with push-ups, squats, and core work.

Recommended: A pull-up bar (doorway bars cost around $20-30). Pull-ups and chin-ups are the king of upper body exercises, and you need something to hang from.

Optional: Resistance bands for assisted movements and parallel bars or dip stations for dips and advanced movements.

The Beginner Workout Plan

I recommend beginners train 3-4 days per week, with each session lasting about 30-45 minutes. Here’s a simple split to get you started:

Day 1 — Push (Chest, Shoulders, Triceps): Regular push-ups (3 sets of as many as you can), wide push-ups (3 sets), diamond push-ups (3 sets), pike push-ups for shoulders (3 sets), and tricep dips on a chair (3 sets).

Day 2 — Pull (Back, Biceps): Pull-ups or chin-ups (3 sets of as many as you can — even if it’s just 1), inverted rows under a table (3 sets), and Australian pull-ups if you have a low bar (3 sets).

Day 3 — Legs & Core: Bodyweight squats (3 sets of 15-20), lunges (3 sets of 10 each leg), calf raises (3 sets of 20), planks (3 sets, hold as long as possible), and leg raises (3 sets of 10).

Progression Is Everything

The biggest mistake beginners make is doing the same workout at the same intensity forever. In calisthenics, progression means making exercises harder over time. Can you do 20 push-ups easily? Move to diamond push-ups. Those are easy? Try archer push-ups. Then one-arm push-ups.

The same applies to pulling movements. Start with assisted pull-ups, progress to full pull-ups, then weighted pull-ups or muscle-ups. Every exercise has a progression ladder, and your job is to climb it.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Going too hard too fast. Your joints, tendons, and ligaments adapt slower than your muscles. Start conservatively and build up over weeks, not days.

Neglecting legs. I know — bodyweight leg training isn’t as exciting as hitting a planche. But balanced development matters for health and aesthetics.

Skipping warm-ups. Five minutes of joint circles, light cardio, and dynamic stretching prevents injuries and improves performance.

Comparing yourself to others. Everyone starts somewhere. Focus on YOUR progress from last week, not someone else’s highlight reel.

How Long Until You See Results?

If you’re consistent with 3-4 sessions per week and eating reasonably well, you can expect noticeable changes within 4-6 weeks. Significant transformation happens around the 3-6 month mark. When you keep grinding, you are slowly going to see the results.

I went from zero to performing advanced calisthenics skills in under two years. You won’t get there overnight, but you’ll get there faster than you think if you stay consistent.

Ready to Start?

Don’t overcomplicate this. Pick three days this week, do the beginner workout I outlined above, and track your reps. Next week, try to do one more rep. That’s it. That’s the secret.

If you want personalized coaching and a structured program, check out my HOME SHRED program — it’s one-on-one online coaching designed specifically for busy men who want to get fit from home.

My 7-Year Journey from Beginner to 700K Subscribers https://carsonteagarden.com/my-7-year-journey-from-beginner-to-700k-subscribers/ Fri, 17 Apr 2026 08:00:00 +0000 https://carsonteagarden.com/?p=4951 When I first started training at 14 years old, I had no idea where this path would take me. No gym membership. No fancy equipment. Just a pull-up bar and a burning desire to get stronger.

Fast forward seven years, and I’ve built a community of over 700,000 subscribers on YouTube, coached hundreds of men through my HOME SHRED program, and developed Olympic-level calisthenics skills — all through bodyweight training.

How It All Started

Like most guys my age, I wanted to get in shape but didn’t know where to begin. I couldn’t afford a gym, and I didn’t have access to weights. What I did have was a doorway pull-up bar and a floor for push-ups. That’s all I needed.

I started filming my workouts, tracking my progress, and sharing what I learned along the way. The early videos were rough — bad lighting, shaky camera, zero editing skills. But people connected with the authenticity of it. They could see a real person making real progress, and that resonated.

The Turning Point

Within two years, I went from basic push-ups to performing planches, front levers, and muscle-ups. People couldn’t believe the transformation. That’s when my channel started to grow — not because I was the biggest or strongest, but because I showed that anyone could build incredible strength at home with zero equipment.

I really want to be the best, and get better every day. That mindset is what separates people who get results from people who quit. When you keep grinding, you are slowly going to see the results.

Building the Pure Strength Brand

As my following grew, I realized I could help even more people through structured coaching. That’s how HOME SHRED was born — a one-on-one online coaching program designed for busy men who want to get fit from home in as little as 3 hours per week.

The philosophy is simple: you don’t need a gym. You don’t need expensive supplements. You need consistency, progressive overload with your own bodyweight, and someone to hold you accountable.

Faith as the Foundation

I can’t tell my story without talking about my faith. Christ has changed my life just like fitness has changed my life. The discipline I’ve built through training carries over into every area — my relationships, my business, my purpose.

For me, fitness isn’t just about looking good. It’s about stewardship of the body God gave me, and using the platform He’s provided to help other men become the best versions of themselves.

What’s Next

At 21, I feel like I’m just getting started. With 961 videos on YouTube, a growing coaching business, and a community that continues to expand, my goal is to reach even more people worldwide. With online and digital, you can reach more people worldwide, and give them more tips.

This website is the next step — a home base where I can share deeper content, longer guides, and help you start your own transformation journey. Whether you’re a complete beginner or you’ve been training for years, there’s something here for you.

Let’s build together.
